I stayed here as a freshman in 2024 - 2024 school year. It may not be the best in terms of amenities, location on campus, etc. but it is highly reliable and great for a next option if your first choice was taken. The food was hit or miss but I could tell that the crew put their best into making good food that didn't have the major food allergens in them. The lobby area was homely. Staff were highly responsive and fixed all my problems.
Best perks are the large rooms, actual working heater and air conditioner, very spacious kitchenette and study space, parking on two sides of the building for residents and to temporarily park, and being one of the closest resident halls to Lot 20. Worst things are the thin walls, smelly staircases (seriously, all of them.), washers and dryers would have problems every once in a while, and the location itself being far from campus and having a VERY busy road run through it (though there are lots of roads to get around it if you memorize them). My only complaint was the bathroom situation where it felt like they only cleaned it a few times a week instead of every day but I'm a bit biased because of my floor mates being a bit wack (3rd floor gang). I was a bit sad about there not being any elevators but it's in the description of West Hall on UNT's website so you already have a heads up.
I went to the rec a lot so the location was great. If you're a science or liberal arts major, all your classes are on that side of campus.
Also the RAs were some of the nicest people I have ever met! They were so awesome and friendly, I befriended all of them and made West Hall feel as much of a second home as possible for my freshman year.
Overall pretty solid next choice but I probably would've chosen places closer to the middle of campus (NOT KERR! DO NOT LIVE IN KERR STATE PENITENTIARY!)

Lived here for a semester, a dreadful experience to say the least. If you have the option to choose another dorm, please do. Other than the perk of having a subpar, underwhelming dining hall behind you, this dorm hall should not be your first or second choice.

My daughter is attending UNT and is now at this dorm. It's pretty nice although not one of their newer dorms. Unfortunately parking on campus is a pain, so I'd you intend to have a vehicle at college and know where you'll be staying, register for that parking pass early.

My first year in college everyone told me West Hall was the worst place and I would probably get two roommates cause the rooms are large. Which didn't happen so yea the rooms are large and that's a bonus. You are right next to a gas station as well the Rec Center. This is a tight group and the friends you make there are the ones you want. Too many hours in the lobby playing pool probably why I didn't graduate, and my apologies for taking my room number with me. Yea you may be further than most dorms from campus but hey that will help keep the freshman 15 at bay or at least leave room for a few more beers!

Showed up to move my son in his dorm for his freshman yr at unt and the room was absolutely disgusting. There were holes in the walls black mold in the air vents wires hanging out the walls fixtures broken sticky brown stuff dripping down the walls it was dirty etc. Don't get me started on the staff here they were beyond unhelpful uncompassionate completely rude unwilling to help etc.
Finally the maintenance staff showed up and were nicer more helpful than the student affairs staff was. They went above and beyond to help fix my son room.

This is where my son staying as freshman. It is cleanly maintained. Secure place. Have good recreation like ping pong/foosball/snooker table and on.

Awesome dorm! Cheap and clean with concrete walls. If you don’t know already, college students are not quiet so the older, sturdier walls of West Hall make for a much more peaceful dorm room experience.
